Thing 16: Streaming Music

This was very interesting. I created my play list in Grooveshark. I like listening to inspirational music. It provides meaning to not only my life, but my soul as well. This is the first I have heard of any of these sites.

Thing 15: Podcasts

I went into three of the podcast directories, but I found the easiest on was Podbean.com. I listened to Fox News Radio and received the most recent up-to-date news. I, myself, would not use this, but I can see where it would be beneficial for students who need to obtain information for an assignment.

Thing 14: Online Video

YouTube does allow individuals the freedom to post many things; that is what Freedom of Speech is all about or is it...

The video I selected demonstrates how our many freedoms are going away. We should be proud to be an American and should be allowed to display the flag proudly. It's sad when you can no longer do that. What is this world coming to...I guess the end as we know it.

THING 13

I explored Addictomatic, Social Mention and logged on to Google Alerts. Addictomatic was very easy for me to use. I found lots of information on Largo Public Library..free english tutoring, text a librarian and also the upcoming Friends book sale to name just a few of the things available at the Library. I also found some comments about our great service!!! I think that as long as we continue to market the library with things like Addictomatic, Facebook, newspaper releases and our fliers we are doing the best we can to get the word out about our Library.

Thing 13 Track Our Library

Thing 13 was an interesting venture into a new way of thinking. What I noticed most is that while exploring the many sites it was obvious that the library needs to do more web-based marketing. Our flyers, program calendar, and website reaches a certain audience, but there is a whole world out that that has no idea what we offer for them. By making sure the Largo Public Library has a presence on the Internet, we can increase our program participation and bring more foot traffic in the doors. You would be surprised by the number of people who aren't aware of our programming and services. Of the tracking sites explored, I feel Addictomatic was the easiest to use, however, I found their front page to be overwhelming.

Thing 13 - Track Our Library

Addictomatic, Social Mention, and Google Alerts pretty much work the same way. The websites gather information from the universe to keep track, measure and gauge usage/views from multiple sites on a variety of subjects. The Largo Public Library's web presence is favorable. Improved visibility can be achieved by engaging users (Parents, Youth and Seniors) of these sites by sharing the history of library, highlighting the generous people who donate their time, leave a legacy, and donate to the collection.

Thing 13: Track Our Library

Doing Thing 13 was very interesting l thought addict-o-matic would be the most useful for the Largo Library if we put more info out into the social media such as YouTube videos about what the library is doing for that certain month, postings on facebook more often, & tweeting more about special events or whatever. l did see a few YouTube posts from patrons in the library one very funny person being filmed snoring in the Periodicals. The most interesting thing l found is that apparently l am more popular than the Largo Library as l searched myself. So it is possible to get more info out that there whether you like it or not

Thing 13 - Track Our Library

The information provided in the sites are very informative; however, I did find that I needed to include "Florida" in the search before it would provide any information about our library. For individuals who use a search engine or other ways of communicating, these sites can be useful. It is great for someone new to our area or for someone just passing through.

Thing 12 LibraryThing

I love LibraryThing. This site is easy to navigate and a great way to communicate with people of like minds. My book selections were pretty popular (some of them anyway). Our patrons will appreciate the efficiency to search, edit, sort and tag books.

THING 12

I took the Library Thing tour and now have my own account. If I wanted to keep track of everything I've read or share my reading list with other people this would be the place to do it.

THING 12

Thing 12: LibraryThing - catalog some of your books!

Strangely enough exploring LibraryThing is exactly what I did over my Christmas weekend, and even yesterday while I was home sick. Before now I have had my books cataloged in a spreadsheet format, but have had my eye on LibraryThing for some time. While I am not really into checking out how popular my books are, or getting in discussions about my books, I really like the user-friendly aspect of the cataloging system. It would be even more useful if they had a mobile app so I could use that instead of having to log into my account over the internet on my phone, but I hear they are working on that in the near future. Here is a link to my collection in LibraryThing: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/libkid
So far I have only cataloged my children's books so it may appear that those are the only kinds of books that I read, but I do have grown-up books as well!

Thing 12: Library Thing

Being able to catalog your books into one area is nice. The search feature was nice too, because I couldn't remember all of the titles. My favorite books are devotional books and landscaping. Who doesn't need a daily devotion to get them through the day. I know I do. Some of the books I added to my catalog wasn't as popular as others, but that is why there are so many books out there. Be sure and check out my books.
