THING 9

Google Docs would be great for study groups. The group has the ability to share notes and edit documents from anywhere as long as they have access to a computer.

Thing 9: Introduction to Google Docs

I am already an avid user of Google Docs, however I do not use it like everyone else does. I use it so that I can work on documents from home, at work, and anywhere else I can get Internet access without having to have my laptop with me. All of my storytime plans and themed booklists are in my Google Docs account so that I have a backup copy and access when Largo's computers aren't working (like recently).
Since discovering Google Docs about two years ago, I hardly ever use traditional word processing programs anymore. This is just so much more convenient. I would think that using Google Docs would be appealing to patrons as well, as this way they don't risk losing their documents when using multiple computers. While I do not currently use the sharing options of the program, I can see how this would be useful to others. Overall, Google Docs is a great way to manage your files from work or home.

Thing 9 - Introduction to Google Docs

Collaboration being the key word here. The ability to share, control and secure documents on line will save time, money, and computer space. Multiple people can view and edit at the same time and even discuss changes in real time. This will give MS Word a run for their money. I like being able to publish a document as a web page.

Thing 9:Introduction to Google Docs

I love everything about Google to begin with. It's great that Google has created a better way for me to share documents with my family & friends instead of sending multiple email attachments to all of them. I have family members who already use this for our genealogy spreadsheets page so I am slightly familiar with Google docs, but have not shared anything myself. People can share all kinds of documents without all the hassle of creating so many different attactments, and now they can find them in one place with Google docs.

THING 8: Social bookmarking & Tagging

With Diigo as a social bookmarking tool I bookmarked two websites and shared them with the library group. This is a great way of sharing information with friends who have the same interests. As the page is bookmarked Diigo gives you the ablilty to add tags to keep everything organized and provide easy access and retrieval. All the information is also saved online and can be accessed by any computer.

Thing 9 - Intro to Google Docs

Google Docs is an easy way in which to share documents, spreadsheets, graphs, etc. Comparably, both word processing and Google Docs are similar in that you can create a document, edit, and share. The difference is that you only have one document in which everyone works from with Google Docs, as compared to several when using a word processing database. Google Docs would make jobs easier in that if you have several individuals who need to work on the same project, they would be able to see a collaborative document, not several and then wondering which one is the most current. Google Docs, when used properly, can be seen as a Godsend to many people.

Thing 8: Social Bookmarking and Tagging

I was somewhat familiar with social bookmarking and tagging prior to this "thing" as I have had to use Delicious in my grad school assignments. I had not ever used Diigo prior to this activity so I did learn something new there. In comparison, I prefer Delicious for bookmarking sites that I may need to use on several different computers, but Diigo was okay. Patrons may enjoy a social bookmarking site like these because of the convenience it offers.

Thing 8:Social Bookmarking and Tagging

I went through Thing 8 at least twice so I would understand it correctly. I'm not sure I will use the Diggolet since I share most things on my social websites of Facebook & Twitter. Its a great too if your job has you working with the internet alot and you need to have many sites at the ready to look at, but I thing simple bookmarking is enough there isnt enough time in the day to venture off into Diggoland.

Thing 7: Image Generators

personalized greetings

I checked out quite a few image generators, but my favorite was clearly Image Chef. Image Chef was the easiest and less time consuming. It had alot of different selections in still images and video which I selected here is using an old newspaper video clip declaring me first female Republican President pretty cool

Elf Yourself Starring-Amy, Beth, & The Ghost Adventures Crew

Thing 8 - Social Bookmarking and Tagging

I see myself using Diigo personally just as a way of organizing all my favorite websites. Accessing from any computer is like One Stop Shopping! In this Rush Rush world we live in today this is a plus. For our patrons who utilize our internet services (which are many) its a way to be more productive in an allocated time frame. What's next?

Thing 8 - Social Bookmarking and Tagging

This was a fun adventure. Even though I had to watch the video three times, I finally got it and it became easier each time. I can see where the patron could benefit, especially if there is a book club and they need to discuss the same topic. It would make it easier to see what each member of the group is researching and talking about.

Thing 6

I checked out the "mashup" things for Thing 6 l'm not that impressed with it, but l did like FlickrPanoGen it makes your images look alive, also moo.com you can personalize your photos on xmas cards, business cards, and other stationary, and l thought barbershop was fun if l ever want to change my look l can try it out with that app. All in all l doubt l will ever use these applications. l already share my photos online with Flickr, Facebook, and maybe a few other sites so l do like that, but only with friends and family.

My Elf

Needed help moving my Elf to my blog. Thanks to Tammy it was a breeze. I did not realize that Elf Yourself is such a big marketing event. Go to UTube and search it's pretty cool.

Thing 6: Mashups

I viewed 3 App Garden Mashups. The first Picnik has amazing effects. The second Jigsawed allows you to make a photo into puzzle pieces. The third Instant Image Search is my favor. The idea of having such a tool at my finger tips is great. The Apps give everyone a chance to be creative in their own way when sharing photos.

THING 7

I completed thing 7 yesterday and found that it was the easiest task for me since it only took about two minutes!! I looked at wordles and think that this would be a fun thing to do.

THING 6: THE MASHUPS

I viewed several mashups on App Garden: GeoPanda, Poyomi, Barbershop, HTML5 Kaleidoscope and Moo.com. My favorite app was GeoPanda..watching a map of the world as photos of different areas of the world are posted in real time!! This made me want to saddle up and get on the road again.

Big Huge Labs gives you some great ideas for customizing your pictures as pop art posters, picture cubes, mosaics and much more.

Spell with Flickr was fun to play with..had some interesting letter shapes and colors.

I would not use most of these tools in my personal and professional life and I would never share my photos on line.

Thing 7 - Image Generators

LLP Boat Sets Sail, originally uploaded by bikerchick-brenda.

Since we can't have a bookmobile; maybe a boat. This was a very interesting process. Can see where this would be useful and may be used quite often.

Thing 6 - Mashups

1.  App Garden - The apps I displayed:  Geoslideshow, which will allow you to display your slides and then be able to share them with family and friends.  This is a very nice way for family members to select the photos they want.  googleearth, a programming application, will allow you to enhance websites that you use.  interestingness, this was the most interesting because you can customize anything from photos, stationery to cards.

2.  Big Huge Labs - This was a very fun application.  It allows you to take something ordinary and make it seem/look professional.  I had fun playing with this app.

3.  Spell w/Flickr - Really neat.  You can be the designer and for someone who does scrapbooking, for example, would make life easier.

Thing 6: Mashups-Bookr

Here is a link to my Bookr project...

http://www.pimpampum.net/bookr/index.php?id=20263

Thing 6: Mashups

Here's my Q&A on this thing.

1. What three mashups did you explore on App Garden?
GeoPanda-lets you watch photos on Flickr being Geo-tagged in near real time. This app was entertaining to view as it gives you a true sense of how global Flickr is.
MyPicsMap-the smart way to browse and locate picture images from all around the world. This app would be helpful if you were trying to locate an image of the Great Wall or some other famous or infamous locale, but Google Image Search would get the same results.
Flickr Screensaver-helps you to display a slideshow of Flickr images as your computer's screensaver. While I wouldn't use this app, I'm sure it would be entertaining to someone.

2. How could you use these tools in your own personal or professional lives?
I would not use any of these tools as I do not plan on using Flickr or any other program to pt my photos online, where others can see them.

3. What do you think of sharing photos online?
I prefer not to share my photos online. I have a few pictures posted on my Facebook page, but carefully control who has access to these photos. Once you submit something online, it doesn't go away. It is there for all the world to see, including future employers. While I have never had a photograph taken of me doing anything questionable (because I'm a relatively quite and serene person), that doesn't mean that I want to show the world my baby pictures. Even though I realize that I have control of what gets put online, I still would rather not share photos online.

Thing 7: Image Generators

After trying a few different image generators, I discovered Parody Motivator and made the following poster. Check it out!

OMG! This is really hard. I have no idea what I am doing, but I do like a challenge. What a great way to express yourself and share pix with loved one.

Thing 5: Photosharing/Editing

While I had made myself a Flickr account several months ago, I hadn't yet had any time to look into it so this exercise was useful. I have had the goal of scanning my childhood pictures onto my computer and saving them on CDs or uploading them somewhere and now I know where I can do this easily!

Thing 5:Explore Flickr or PhotoBucket

I have accounts with lots of photo sites. l mainly upload images from my camera of family, friends, & nature. l do like browsing images from many sites to get my favorite gal Marilyn Monroe, and one of my favorite images is the one l've pasted to this post.

Thing 4 - Locate & Add Feeds to Newsreaders

How much easier can it be than to have news articles and other articles of interests at your fingertips.  This process allows a person to stay current with news items and new "happenings" in the local community.  I was also impressed with the ease in which to subscribe.

Thing 3 & 4

Wow! What an exciting prospect to be able to obtain updated information at your finger tips. I chose Google Reader for my RSS. RSS will be useful both professionally and personally. I like having all my data at one central location. Library patrons will find this tool very helpful.

thing 4

I chose google reader since I'm always on google for information. I like rss newsreaders because I can click on them for instant access to the magazine or newspaper that I'm looking for.
This information will be a useful tool in showing patrons how to add to their readers.

Thing 4:

I really liked adding a reader to my google account so of course l chose the Google Reader. I added my hometown online newspaper The Buffalo Evening News feed, FoxNews, Largo Library, & The Library of Congress to name a few. I will most likely add a few more feeds & blogs of interest. The reader helps save time so l dont have to search for the sites l normally go to. They are right there in the Reader to look at.

Thing 4: Locate and Add Feeds to Newsreaders

When it comes to readers, I chose the Google Reader simply because I am a Googler. RSS and newsreaders are especially useful to people who visit a number of websites on a daily basis and want to see what is new without having to visit each sites individually. There aren't very many websites I am drawn to in this manner so while I think it was good to learn about RSS and newsreaders, I don't think I would use them on a regular basis. I ended up adding the NY Times Children's Booklist and a few others related to my work at the library. After this, I added a few news sites and other sites of interest. I'm not really into reading blogs, but I did add the library's blog as I usually check it daily to see what our staff have written. This activity may come in handy if I were to have a patron that needed help finding these types of sites to add to their newsreader.

Thing 3-Thoughts on RSS

My thoughts on using RSS feeds are quite simple, they allow you to keep up to date on websites of interest, and I will definately do this at home:)

Thing 3 - RSS and Newsreaders

This was very interesting and a good way to stay current with the day-to-day events.  It also allows an individual connection to events and activities.

Thing 3 re:RSS reader

I am enjoying RSS news reader. I now subcribe to the New York Times and am a New York state of mind girl..If only I was there now!! Thanks Kevin!!

Thing 3-RSS and Newsreaders

I had previously heard of, but never before used, RSS and newsreaders. While I do not think I will make use of them on a daily basis, it was good to learn about so I can help patrons. I ended up adding the NY Times Children's Booklist and a few others related to my work at the library. After this, I added a few news sites and other sites of interest.

Thing 2-Blog Building

It was a great learning experience building a blog with my library co-workers Brenda, Charlie, Margarita & Melissa. I had a fun time learning how to make the perfect blog. I look forward to seeing comments and new ideas about libraries from other people:)

Thing 2 - Blog Building

This was an interesting adventure for me.  I'm sure that once I use this tool on a regular basis, it will be more beneficial to me.

Thing 2 - Making Up the Blog

Ladies creating a blog with you is a great way to team build. Looking forward to the evolution. Reaching out to the global community is essential. The process will help us reach a wider audiences who can utilize library services.

Thing 2-Blog Building

My experience with blog building has been very limited up to this point. I was required to create a blog for one of my library school classes. After creating it, I have not gone back to update it so it just sits there in cyberspace not really doing anything or serving a purpose.

While it may have seemed frustrating to initially set up our Li9braryLadies5 blog, I believe it will be more relevant to us in the near future. I think that this is a really good idea as it gives everyone a chance to learn more in a fun way.

thing 2 creating a blog

I' m really blog challenged and hope to get better at the process of creating a blog..It's been a meeting of great minds and everyone had imput into the creation of the blog. Now moving on to the next task..

Thing 1 - Web 2.0

Things as we know it has changed drastically and as libaries we MUST stay up-to-date with the latest technology.  Web 2.0 will allow libraries the opportunity to reach more patrons through blogging, facebook, etc.  Since technology is changing, so should libraries and its staff.

Thing 1

My name is Melissa and I love working in the library. The library has changed a lot since I was a child, but it is in response to what the public needs. We are civil servants and our purpose is to evolve with the times. If we are not serving the patrons well, then the library will fail to be seen as a valuable resource. Becoming familiar with current technology is one of the most beneficial things we can do in order to continue to be viewed as essential.

Thing 1

My name is Amy, I work for the Largo Library in Largo, Florida. I love working at the library we are always upgrading our systems to keep up with the growing web. I am always on the internet learning new things and I love the social network. Creating ideas and developing new programs for the future of the library. Our library has up to date pc's, studyrooms for privacy, the biggest Genealogy section, and most importantly thousands of books. The LibraryLadies5 hope you enjoy our blog...,

Thing 1..re: Web 2.0

Working in Largo library you are challenged every day with a new and interesting question or idea. The world of technology is constantly changing and our job is to jump on the train and move with it. The library for many people in these times of financial crisis is the only means of communication and education available to them.

Thing 1 - Web 2.0

Someone once said that if you listen closely to global music you can understand the world! Music is a universal language. Libraries can become the main source for all people around the world to access all forms of information.

Welcome to the Library Ladies 5 Blog

Hello.  Team members Amy, Brenda, Melissa, Charlie, and Margarita welcome you to our exciting Library Blog.

Thank you.
